A silk rug will not fare well in a very high traffic area so it should be placed somewhere where it will not be tramped across all day and where it will not receive too much direct sunlight that could fade its delicate colors.
Like any other rug or carpet an Oriental rug made using silk will benefit from regular commercial cleaning, although it may be best to stick to just a couple of times a week instead of every day. If your vacuum has a beater bar make sure that it is not in place when you vacuum your silk rug and if you have one of those very high suction machines take care with that as well.
